What can I say? The 6th annual Bug Boogie was the biggest and best yet, with a great collection of VWs parked alongside some awesome Porsche-built machinery.  As last year, we shared the showground with sister title 911 & Porsche World, which meant that, for a meagre £6 entry fee, visitors could enjoy not only Bug Boogie, but also The Porsche Picnic meet, too. I know I’m not the only one who likes to nose around classic and exotic Porsches, so I think it’s a recipe we’ll be sticking to for the future.
Fortunately, we were blessed with great weather (again!) and, with such beautiful suroundings, this meeting has become a firm family favourite day out. Bug Boogie is about as chilled out as can be. There are no parking restrictions or rules; it’s very much a casual affair that mixes all kinds of VWs together and I think that’s why it works so well.

As you wander around the cars, folk are chilling out by their vans or taking a picnic alongside a Porsche. Stop for a chat, admire some cool cars, nose through some swapmeet collectables – that’s how it works at Wellington Country Park! Some people we’d spoken to had camped over at the onsite camping ground just a few hundred yards from the show field. They told tales of being surrounded by wild deer at dawn, and how the children fed their breakfast to the deer through the sliding door of the Camper!

There were even a few deer running between the cars during the day – even noisy VWs couldn’t scare them off! That’s part of the fun at this show, children love the adventure park just outside the gate, and for many it’s the first time they’ve been able to interact with wild deer, too!

Of course, there were also lots of cool rides on display to admire! We asked Paul Wisk to park his 1943 Schwimmwagen alongside the brand-new Porsche Panamera in front of the Ultra VW tradestand. It was interesting to see Porsche enthusiasts admiring a true piece of VW and Porsche history, and comparing it to the latest offering from the Porsche range. And, right next to the Porsche was the awesome Samba built by Creative Coachworks. With VW now the major shareholder of Porsche, we liked the irony of displaying a VW with Porsche running gear for all to admire!

Bug Boogie is a great way to close the season for many, and a final chance to chew the cud with old friends before the winter sets in. It’s also a great time for us to catch up and meet so many of our dedicated readers, who all seemed to have a great time.

If you missed it, you missed out! Just make sure you pop along to say ‘Hi’ next year – it really is a relaxed atmosphere and a fun day out for all the family.
